COAST DIVISION

In a thrilling pitchers' duel, the Waves outlasted the Jayhawks, 4-3 in 6 innings, at Live Oak on Friday, April 24.

Kyle Whalen, starting pitcher for the Jayhawks, threw two scoreless innings and struck out four batters. The other three Jayhawks pitchers -- Aaron Henschel, Matthew Murphy and Marty Walsh -- combined to allow just four runs.

Four Waves pitchers -- Sammy Sugden, Max Nelson, Kai Hudson and Jimmy Brown -- combined to limit the Jayhawks to three runs.

The Jayhawks jumped to an early lead in the top of the first on an RBI triple by Kyle Whalen. Up 1-0 in the top of the 4th, Marty Walsh led off the inning for the Jayhawks with a home run, his third consecutive game with a four-bagger.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Waves pieced together two runs on hits by Sammy Sugden and Jimmy Brown, and a walk by Carsten Zeiger. After four full innings, it was a 2-2 game. In the bottom of the 5th, the Waves went up 3-2 on a walk by Emmet O'Connnor, and a fielder's choice by Max Nelson to score Emmet.

The Jayhawks clawed back for a run in the top of the sixth to tie the game 3-3, with Kyle Whalen reaching on a fielder's choice, and Matthew Murphy banging a double to left to score Kyle. The game ended when the Waves drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 6th.
