The long-awaited opening of the new Manhattan Beach Public Library will take place on Friday, May 1, at 4:00 p.m. The event will include a short ceremony, followed by a ribbon cutting and family-friendly activities for both kids and adults.

"The library is beautiful and I’m sure the community will make great use of it," said Karol Sarkisyan, management fellow at the L.A. County Public Library system, who is coordinating the grand opening.

The new library, which is part of the Civic Center complex on Highland Avenue, is a two-story facility with a panoramic ocean view. It is designed to achieve LEED Gold level certification. • Nine public access computers in the adult area of the library;
•A Children’s area including Family Place, an interactive learning wall, four early literacy computers, and an additional six children's access computers;
•A teen area with five teen access computers and a pop-up LED station for gaming and movies;
•A meeting room with a capacity of 100 includes state-of-the-art audiovisual system with remote touch panel controls and a kitchen;
