Urban Obstacle Run in Manhattan Beach

Apr 12, 2015 02:10AM ● By Mb News Staff

Parkour in action.

An Urban Obstacle Run arrives in Manhattan Beach today (Sunday, April 12) when its practitioners, fans and the curious gather for a unique sporting activity. Organized as a Meetup event, the group will meet at 9:15 a.m. on Veterans Parkway at the fitness station across the street from Vons in downtown Manhattan Beach for stretching. All skill levels of fitness are welcome.

Participants will begin the 3-mile course at 9:30 a.m. According to the Meetup post, "This is a scenic wooded trail with many opportunities to practice basic vaulting, dive rolls, tree-work, balance, precision, and calisthenic physical training.

"Our route will take us along a single track trail that winds through the trees and the gardens. We'll run from spot to spot breaking only momentarily for obstacles. Be prepared to test your skill and endurance on an easy/moderate jog filled with segments of vaults, precisions, dive rolls, and tree-work."

Event organizer Jake, who hails from Redondo Beach, expects a small turnout this time, writing, "The group is a Parkour-style fitness running group. That means that we focus on sustaining our run while vaulting, jumping, and rolling." He expects the activity to last 60-90 minutes.

The Meetup group holding the event is Tracer-LA, aka Tracers: Writes Jake, "I'm always adventuring either with friends, my family, or solo. Parkour has freed me to experience the urban environment as I would a national park, and I enjoy sharing that with others."

He says Trace-LA is "about endurance and fluid traversing."

To tell you the truth, I can hardly wait to see it in action. It sounds intriguing and challenging.
