An AYSO Girls 10-and-Under (U10) soccer team from Manhattan Beach, the Stingrays, will play in the Regional Championship Tournament this weekend for a chance to make it to the State Championship in March.

The girls have kicked their way through the competition, going undefeated in regular season play and only losing one game in the post-season play, that coming in Region 18 playoffs. However, the girls rebounded and were unbeatable in the Area championships.

The Stingrays won the AYSO Area 1D/AYSO Region 18 league championship, despite the one setback, beating teams from MB, Redondo Beach, Hawthorne, El Segundo and Westchester. Stingrays players are Katrina Doll, Kate Hopkins, Kylie Harkenrider, Fresky Khachatourians, Sydney Orland, Emily Protiva, London Stroud, Georgia Nicksic, Olivia Becker, Ava Larson and Sarah Dobbins.

On Saturday, the Stingrays travel to Riverside for contests at 9 a.m., 12 noon and 3 p.m., according to Coach Jimmy Orland. Jimmy coaches the team with Arthur Khachatourians.

Saturday play is part of the Regional Championship Tournament, which continues through Sunday, March 1. All games are at the AB Brown Complex in Riverside. The tournament winner will advance to the State Championship in Irvine in March.

The Regional Championship Tournament includes teams from other AYSO Regions, including Riverside, San Bernardino, southwest Los Angeles County, central and west Los Angeles, Diamond Bar, Pomona Valley, the Inland Empire, Coachella Valley, the West San Gabriel Valley, and even Arizona and Nevada.

The semi-finals will be held Sunday at 9 a.m. with the championship game being held at 1 p.m.
