Pedestrians filled the streets of downtown Manhattan Beach this Friday, as local merchants opened their doors for the first of three days of their annual winter sidewalk sale.

Throughout Metlox, up and down Manhattan Beach Boulevard, down Highland Avenue, and across Manhattan Avenue, shops set up racks of clothing, accessories, decor, and other home goods. Most merchants are offering at least 20 percent off regular prices; some have taken discounts of as much as 50 percent off winter merchandise (plus some bargain bins of $5 to $10 items).

“The downtown business owners look forward to sidewalk sales because it is three days of collective deals and unique offerings throughout the entire downtown," said Kelly Stroman, executive director of the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business and Professional Association. "It attracts local shoppers, gives customers from greater Los Angeles another reason to visit our town, and is a welcome surprise for visitors from afar.  Don’t forget the restaurants that welcome hungry and thirsty shoppers with award-winning creations.”

The warm weather on Friday contributed to the crowd of shoppers. Both Marine Layer and Fresh Produce Handpicked featured beach chairs outside the store where a tired shopper could rest his or her feet before moving on for more bargains.

The sale will continue through Sunday, January 25.
