Manhattan Beach Mayor Wayne Powell will be one of 15 mayors from Los Angeles and Orange counties to attend the United States Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C. tomorrow through Friday, Jan. 25. While in the U.S. Capitol, Powell will meet President Barack Obama.

During the 83rd Winter Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Powell said he will visit the White House for a meeting/reception with President Obama and top Administration officials. "At that time, I'll have the honor and privilege of personally meeting with President Obama," he told DigMB.

Vice President Joe Biden will deliver remarks at the conference on Thursday, Jan. 22.

Topics at the conference include community policing, the economy, innovation and transportation.

About 300 mayors are expected to attend the event this year, 80 of which are new mayors, according to a press release. The conference allows mayors the opportunity to engage with Administration officials, Congressional leaders, and business leaders to ensure the health and economic recovery of America’s cities.

Other mayors from L.A. and Orange counties attending the conference include Lili Bosse (Beverly Hills), Aja Brown (Compton), Chris Brown (Hawthorne), Patrick J. Furey (Torrance), Robert Garcia (Long Beach), Jack Hadjinian (Montebello), Chris Hamm (San Clemente), Hans Liang (Monterey Park), Mary Ann Lutz (Monrovia), Luis H. Marquez (Downey), Diane J. Martinez (Paramount), Zareh Sinanyan (Glendale), Tom Tait (Anaheim) and Nancy Renne Tragarz (Walnut).

The
conference will be livestreamed.
