Surf Series Kickoff Event Rescheduled for Jan. 3

The kickoff event of the South Bay Surf Series, which was rained out earlier this month, has been rescheduled for January 3. The series, a five-event contest presented by the South Bay Boardriders Club, will begin at 26th Street in Manhattan Beach with sponsorship from Jack's Surfboards.

The deadline for online entry is December 31. After that, surfers may download the entry form on the website and mail it, or drop off the entry at the surf shop that is sponsoring the event. Same-day beach entries are available for an additional fee, are subject to space availability, and are honored on a first-come-first-served basis.

The entry categories are:
  • Micro Groms (9 & under)
  • Assisted Micro Groms (9 & under)
  • Groms (12 & under)
  • Boys (14 & under)
  • Juniors (18 & under)
  • Open Men (all ages)
  • Masters (40-49)
  • Legends (50+)
  • Open Longboard (all ages)
  • Junior Women (18 & under)
  • Open Women (all ages)

Finalist from all divisions win prize packs and all contestants receive t-shirts and other goodies for entering. Surf Series ratings winners will receive prizes such as free trips, surfboards, wetsuits and more.

The remaining 2015 contests are scheduled for January 24, February 28 and March 28. The season concludes in April with a championship at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Each event is sponsored by a local surf/ocean shop.

South Bay Boardriders was launched in November 2009  and is "dedicated to celebrating the rich history of the South Bay surfing culture, introducing families, youth, and our community to all aspects of ocean activities, and being guardians of our local shoreline."
