Micro Groms celebrate their victories at a South Bay Boardriders Surf Series Contest.

The kickoff contest of the 2014/2015 South Bay Surf Series held by South Bay Boardriders has been postponed due to the "heavy rain, polluted runoff, high surf and high winds," according to a post on the group's website. The contest was scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13 at 26th Street in Manhattan Beach.

"Safety is priority #1, and it has been decided to postpone the contest until the next available date from LA County Harbors and Beaches Dept.," says a post on the group's Facebook page.

The Boardriders upcoming 2015 contest are scheduled for January 24, February 28 and March 28. Each event is sponsored by a local surf/ocean shop.

Student, individual and family memberships are available but you needn't be a member to participate in a Surf Series Contest. Membership includes discounted contest entry fees, discounts at local surf shops, member pricing on club apparel and accessories, free admission to general membership meetings and special events, and a priority invitation to the group's
South Bay Big Wave Challenge awards night.

South Bay Boardriders was launched in November 2009  and is "dedicated to celebrating the rich history of the South Bay surfing culture, introducing families, youth, and our community to all aspects of ocean activities, and being guardians of our local shoreline. 'Fun' is central to who we are.

The group's founding board members are Mike Balzer, Derek Levy, Tom Horton, Kim Komick, George Loren, Matt Walls, Tim Ritter, Kevin Campbell, Dickie O’Reilly, and Kelly Zaun.
