New at the Manhattan Beach Farmers' Market: Ken's Top Notch and Frogs Organic Bakery

The Manhattan Beach Farmers' Market welcomed two new vendors this month: Ken's Top Notch Produce and Frogs Organic Bakery.

Ken's Top Notch is an organic farm based in Reedley, CA, that is known for its stone fruit and citrus. While the peach and nectarine season is winding down, Ken's is preparing to introduce a new stone fruit on September 23: the "September Yummy" purple plum.

Ken's is also featuring a uniquely sweet Japanese grape variety the Kyoho grape, for $6/box. These seeded grapes have blackish-purple skin and are similar to Concord grapes. They have an extremely high sugar content and are easily peeled.

Mary Uh, whose son-in-law Ken Lee owns the farm, says that the Ken's Top Notch team is happy to be at the Manhattan Beach Farmers' Market: "Nice area, nice breeze, next to the ocean...it's a great place to be," she says.

Frogs Organic Bakery, the first certified organic French bakery in the U.S., bakes its breads and pastries at its Gardena facility and sells at farmers' markets throughout the L.A. area. The bakery is the brainchild of Jean-Luc Labat, a five-star French pastry chef who has worked in leading venues around the world. The market stand offers Labat's buttery croissants and pastries as well as crusty baguettes.

Assistant Manager Ariel Halasz says that Manhattan Beach customers appreciate the fact that Frogs' organic products are made with minimal ingredients and are always fresh. "It's only our second week and we already have return customers," she says.

Also this week at the market, look for end-of-summer stone fruits, grapes, and fall favorites like apples and pears.

The Manhattan Beach Farmers' Market is held every Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 13th Street and Morningside Drive.
