MB/HB Boys Trounce East Team in World Series Baseball

A Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach Junior League All Stars bats against a team from Newark, Delaware in the Junior League World Series.

The Junior League baseball All Stars from Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach beat the East Region champion from Newark, Delaware 10-0 in five innings on Thursday in Taylor, Michigan after an eight-run explosion in the third inning.

The team advances to the US championship game to determine the winner of the US pool. That winner then plays the winner of the International bracket to determine who is the World Series champion.

The West will have a chance at redemption against the Corpus Christi, Texas team that handed them their only post-season loss Wednesday night. The two teams will play Friday at 5 p.m.

The MB/HB boys are the West Region champion and scored in the third on a solo home run by Chris Penna, a solo home run by Joey Acosta, a bases loaded walk by Jacques Dubecq, a two-run single by Garrett Auville, a wild pitch, and a two-run single by Acosta.

Penna racked up two RBIs on two hits for the West team.

West's Nick Solan kept East off the scoreboard for all five innings he was on the bump. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out four.

Dubecq was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed 10 runs in 3-2/3 innings, walked four and struck out two.

The game was never in doubt after the first inning, as the MB/HB team scored two runs on a groundout by Nick Locke-Henderson and an RBI single by Penna.
