Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne Powell and council member David Lesser join politicians from Redondo Beach (council member Bill Brand), Hermosa Beach (council member Nanette Barragan), Rancho Palos Verdes (council member Jim Knight), Santa Monica (council member Tony Vazquez), Lawndale (Mayor Robert Pullen-Miles), Malibu (council members Lou LaMonte and Laura Rosenthal), West Hollywood (council member John Duran, and Los Angeles (council member Nury Martinez).

The vacant seat was held by Robert Garcia, whose election from vice-mayor to mayor of Long Beach prompted his Coastal Commission departure, and is open to elected County Supervisors and City Council members from Los Angeles and Orange counties.

The state's Senate Rules Committee requested the nominations, and will the appointment.

Wayne Powell and David Lesser, both Manhattan Beach City Council members, have been nominated to sit on the California Coastal Commission.
