MB Farmers Market Celebrates 8th Anniversary

Jul 22, 2014 04:14PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
The Manhattan Beach Farmers Market celebrated its 8th anniversary on Tuesday with fruits, vegetables, train rides, live music, and a visit from a hockey-playing lion.

"It really was a nice family celebration," said market manager Cynthia Rogers.

The market opened with the official launch of "Breathe Free MB" - a campaign by the City of Manhattan Beach and the Beach Cities Blue Zones Project to inform residents of the new city-wide smoke-free policy. According to a new city ordinance, smoking will be prohibited in public places, starting next month.

As the crowd filled in at the market, the L.A. Kings' mascot Bailey the lion made an appearance, courtesy of Bella Beach and Bella Beach KidsPages, a Bookstore later sponsored a cooking demo with Chef Theresa Wahl. The day's celebrations also included live music by acoustic singer Yolanda, and the ever-popular Trackless Train Ride for kids.

The Manhattan Beach Farmers Market has about 50 stalls with fresh produce as well as prepared foods. It is held at 13th and Morningside Drive on Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the summer (winter hours 11:00 am to 4:00 pm).
